As we inch closer to the 2020-2021 hockey season, we wanted to send a message that attempts to address questions and concerns that you might have as we come out of the recent uncertain times.   Please take the time to read this entire email that will include important information about return to ice guidance, player and parent safety and player fees.    The situation remains ever-changing and best laid plans may require modification depending on guidance from local and state governing bodies, but please be assured that OMGHA is committed to providing the safest and fullest experience for our hockey community.   We recognize the importance that hockey plays in the lives of our players and community and we are actively sorting through all the issues necessary to get back on the ice and in the stands.

2020 – 2021 Hockey Fee/Budget Update

We are getting close to finalizing the budget for the 2020 – 2021 Season – it will be officially approved at the July Board Meeting.  We are excited to let you know that we are planning for a full season and fortunately have been able to optimize our cost structure as we work to offset potential revenue losses due to COVID-19.  This means that the OMGHA experience you are used to will not change and it should not result in drastically higher fees.

Fees across all levels of House and Travel, with the exception of Squirts/U10’s, are expected to be slightly higher due to inflationary pressures for ice and tournament costs.  Squirts/U10’s can expect to see a slight reduction in fees due to participating in 3 tournaments vs 4.  Since having 4 tournaments put these teams up against their game limits, moving to 3 will allow more opportunities for scrimmages against similar competition, which we feel is better for skill development.   Approved fees will be communicated following the July Board meeting and will be part of the registration link on the OMGHA website.

Return to Ice and Stands – Compliance

OMGHA’s priority is player safety.   In compliance with government regulations and by following the guidelines set forth by USA and Minnesota Hockey, OMGHA will be prepared to return players and families to our rinks as soon as ice is made available to us.  Until otherwise communicated, OMGHA will require, and at the very least, strongly recommend that masks be worn inside arenas by all coaches, fans and players when not on the ice.   We will assist our rink partners in complying with any requirements placed upon them.  As we learn more about what we can and cannot do at our rinks, we will make adjustments that align with our commitment to player safety.   To read more about USA Hockey and Minnesota Hockey guidance, please visit the following links:

Commitment to the OMGHA Experience

Finally, the House and Travel committees have been diligently working to plan exciting opportunities for new and existing hockey players.   The sudden and abrupt ends to our seasons last year provided motivation to OMGHA leadership to make this upcoming season better than ever.  While making fiscally responsible decisions and getting creative with programming and personnel, OMGHA looks forward to providing our hockey families with what it has missed during these uncertain times;  HOCKEY and Community.    Please watch your emails and social media for announcements about future opportunities and any updates on changes to the season or our operations.   Register early so we can continue to make plans that address the real-time situations we face as decisions about the school year and building access become known.   Thanks for taking the time to read this email.   If you have any questions, feel free to email me and I will do my best to get you an answer.   We are OMGHA Strong!!
