OMGHA is excited and proud to congratulate long-time OMGHA Bantam AA Coach, Kurt Halstrom, who is a 2023 Double-Goal Coach Regional Award recipient!   This award is presented by the Positive Coaching Alliance and comes after Coach Halstrom received a nomination that included essay responses and a number of personal references showing Coach Halstrom's adherence to Double-Goal coaching philosophies.   A Double-Goal Coach strives to win games, but more importantly, has a goal to teach life lessons through sports.   

 From the Positive Coaching Alliance, a Double-Goal Coach behaves as follows:

• Takes a mastery approach to sport rather than a scoreboard orientation, teaching athletes to put forward maximum effort, continuously learn and improve, and not let themselves be stopped by mistakes or fear of mistakes.

• Fills Emotional Tanks of athletes, refusing to motivate through fear, intimidation, or shame. Recognizing that a player’s “Emotional Tank,” like the gas tank of a car, must be full in order to go anywhere, the Double-Goal Coach provides a fuel mixed of five specific, truthful praises for every specific, constructive correction.

• Honors the Game by respecting ROOTS (Rules, Opponents, Officials, Teammates, Self).

Coach Halstrom remains in the running to be chosen as one of 25 National winners that will be selected from the Regional winners just announced.  

OMGHA players and families are fortunate to have Coach Halstrom be such an integral part of our association.    He has been a dedicated leader and role model for many young athletes and we are excited for this special recognition.   If you see him around, please congratulate him!
